Welcome To My Website!

Mandatory About Section

Who are you?

I'm Discreative. Ironically creative name, I know. I'm a huge nerd who's into things that make me think (not that I'm particularly good at thinking, but I do enjoy it). Some specifics are strategy games, narrative RPGs, fantasy and sci-fi, the like. Also a bit of a politics nerd, though I'm as knowledgeable in it as all the other things (not exceedingly).

Currently trying to stop being a passive consumer and produce some art of my own. You can find me on this website and on tumblr (link is in the sidebar, in the section that would probably be more impressive if I had any social media besides Tumblr).

What is this?

A website of my own, to do as I please. I've noticed that in the modern social media landscape I tend to just default to a passive observer and never meaningfully interact with things. And while I'm not exactly losing sleep over that, I'd like to try a new approach, and I find the Neocities ecosystem (and indie web at large) to be fascinating and worth exploring.

What can I find here?

Whatever popped into my brain at any given moment, mostly. Though you as you can see by those links at the top of this box, I have some ideas:

  • Diskettes: talking about stories I like. I'd call them 'reviews' but that implies a level of criticism or objectivity I am simply not interested in having. I just want to gush about things I enjoyed or rant about things I didn't. (Why diskettes? Because my friends call me Disc, and I thought it was clever.)
  • Juno's God: writing/worlbuilding project set in an original setting where human belief gives rise to real, tangible, observable gods. It was originally meant as a short-ish story but I had too much fun with the implications of the setting.
  • Other: ah, most versatile of categories. Anything that doesn't fit the above goes here. If I do enough of one other thing it might become a category in itself. Or maybe I'm just being overly zealous - I mean, I'm not sure I can even fill out the other categories in the first place.

This looks awful.

Well, maybe that's putting words in your mouth. This is mostly my own insecurity, but it really doesn't look stellar. Looks good enough though, and my philosophy for this place is to keep it as low effort as possible. Could I design an aesthetically pleasing and intuitive site, with a good colour scheme and pleasing font? Yes (in fact I've done it before). But I tried to do it here, and the result is the website didn't get done. So I grabbed a template off the internet (credit in the footer!) and ran with it, and the result is the website got done.

Kill the perfectionist in your brain. It does not help.
